UK broadband speed slower than Uganda!

It may come as no big surprise to some, but after a study was conducted to compare broadband speeds accross different countries, the United Kingdom came in at a dismal 35th! This makes uk broadband slower than that of Uganda.

For a developed country like the UK it is shocking that it has one of the slowest broadband speeds around. This could cause the new broadband minister to start thinking of what to do to get faster broadband speeds.

Not only is the UK slow with downloading (which is what most people do whether it's music, films or just surfing the internet), but for uploading it is even worse, coming in at 62nd place.

The average download speed in the UK is 8Mbps, with uploads averaging around 1Mbps.

Countries with the same or faster broadband speeds include Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uganda, Azerbaijan and Russia. This may beg the questions as to what broadband providers are doing to have slower speeds than those of very developed countries like the United Kingdom.

Most of the European countries came out in the top 30 on the survey, Latvia being the fastest broadband country in Europe.

Having slow broadband does bother alot of people in the UK according to a survey by a leading mobile broadband provider. Warnings have been issued that more investment is needed if the UK wants to keep up with the EU on broadband speed.
