Martha Lane Fox new broadband champion says Cameron
Internet entrepreneur Martha Lane Fox will continue, through her government role, to help people get onto broadband, so they can finally start using the internet. By appointing Martha Lane Fox as the Digital Champion, a role that she previously held during the last Labour government, the government is going to encourage people to use broadband internet services.
Martha Lane Fox, A Dotcom pioneer and co-founder of Lastminute.com, will be promoting the Internet as a vital tool in the citizens' participation in the Conservatives vision of a Big Society.
As you can read on her website, Ms. Fox is happy to continue her activity and proceed with Race Online 2012, a scheme meant to involve as many new home broadband users as possible before the 2012 Olympics.
According to Martha, digital technologies can be used to improve a whole range of activities such as government processes and services for the people and she is going to champion this so that no one be left out of the great ideas that the new coalition are planning to realise.
BT has announced that their fixed line home and business broadband networks in London will soon be upgraded. This will bring super fast fibre-optic capabilities to almost 90% of London by the time of the Olympics in 2012.
